N Her Footsteps is a dedicated charitable organization focused on empowering children, educators, and underserved families in Jefferson County. Inspired by the legacy of our family's matriarch, Barbara Jean Mills Sheets, we are committed to addressing educational and socio-economic disparities through a range of impactful initiatives.
Our mission is to create meaningful change by enhancing access to education, resources, and support. From providing scholarships to deserving youth for college or vocational training to maintaining care closets and teacher supply cabinets in local schools, we strive to ensure that every student and educator in our community has the tools they need to succeed.
Through our various programs—including the Warm Clothing Initiative, Backpack Repack, and Teacher Supply Cabinets—we work to alleviate financial burdens and uplift those who might otherwise be overlooked. Our efforts are driven by a deep commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive community, one step at a time.
Our mission is to provide children and families in Jefferson County with comprehensive resources, support, and educational opportunities to help create a successful and bright future for the children in the county.

Apart from her church duties, Barbara was a dedicated bowler, participating in leagues for over 40 years and serving as an officer. Her commitment to serving others led her to run for office, and she served as a county commissioner in Jefferson County for more than two decades. Barbara prioritized her constituents, ensuring they were informed about programs and opportunities that could benefit them, even providing transportation when needed.
Known as the matriarch of her family, Barbara's generosity and resilien
